Editing a page?

If you are responsible for updating a group page, you will first need to register a personal account. Click on My LALG in the menu bar and complete the online form. You will then get a one-time login by email: you may use this once to login and create your own password.

Finally, please click on the Contact LALG link in the footer of any page to request access rights. Once your request has been handled, you should then be able to edit your group pages as before.

You don't need to register or login if you are just viewing the site.

Lichfield Cathedral and the National Memorial Arboretum

The Arboretum has been growing and developing for 18 years and now has over 30,000 trees, both British native and specimen trees.   Specific woodlands exist in memory of the Merchant Navy, victims of road accidents and for children.

Wind and Watermills

We look forward to Robin Webb’s talk on Wind and Watermills.

For nearly two millennia these remarkable machines were man's source of power for those tasks beyond the capabilities of horses and oxen.  During the talk different types of mills will be explained, together with their history and construction.

Race Night

The Cloisters, Barrington Road; an unusual venue for horse racing, built in 1905 as an open-air school dedicated to psychology and where students were taught skills from the Arts and Crafts movement. 

Doors open 6pm, with the first race starting at 7.15pm.

Our professional compere will introduce and explain the format of the evening before the horses for the first race are paraded on the large video screen.
‘Punters’ will be invited to place their bets at the tote booths provided. The
lucky victors will collect their winnings.

Licensed bar with real ales.

Tickets are on sale until 3 October from Discover Letchworth, formerly
the Tourist Information Centre, now on Broadway beside Morrisons.

£10 each - or £8 for LALG members - includes a hot supper of sausage or
fishcake and chips - vegetarian option available.
