Our new UkenSing group (ukulele 'n' singing) is a small group of women looking for one or two singers to join them. There may be space for more ukulele players in time. New Idea: D.H Lawrence Discussion Group Thursday 19 February, 10.30am at Mrs Howard Memorial Hall. Small charge to cover room hire. Well known for Women in Love, Sons and Lovers and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. We will discuss how to start this group by reading one of his novels or some other aspect. Midweek Amblers/Ramblers Friday 20 February, 10am for a 10.15am start. Meet at Strathmore Arms, St. Paul's Walden SG4 8BT. A 4-mile circular walk, led by Carol Stokes to Hitch Wood, then down into Whitwell with views across the Mimram valley. The route back passes The Bury, the childhood home of the late Queen Mother. Letchworth District Walkers meet on Sunday 22 February, 9am for a 10-mile circular walk from the Church of St Leonard’s, Church Lane, Old Warden: mostly flat along grassy paths, tracks, woods with a few connecting roads. Afternoon Quiz Group meets on Monday 23 February and the fourth Monday afternoon of each month. 2.30pm in the Broadway Hotel bar. 6 rounds of light-hearted general knowledge quizzing in a friendly and non-competitive atmosphere. The next 30+ Drop-in is Wednesday 25 February, 7pm in the Broadway Hotel bar. This friendly group is aimed at people in their 30s and 40s - singles and couples - to provide a relaxed opportunity to make new friends locally. Contact Nurit: 30plus@lalg.org.uk

The Vegetarian and Vegan Group is meeting on Friday 27 February, 11am in Letchworth Library's upstairs meeting room for a conversation with Dr Afacan and FMT Practitioner Annie McCue from Taymount Clinic. They will talk to us about the services they offer to support those who would like to rebalance their gut microbiome, and will answer our questions. Visit to Houses of Parliament, Friday 6 March, 16.50 and 17.00. Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, has kindly organised a free guided tour for 20 people (2 groups of 10). A 75-minute, in-depth look at the House of Commons, House of Lords, Central Lobby, and Westminster Hall. We will travel by 15.20 train from Letchworth to Blackfriars then tube to Westminster by 16.30 in time for a security check. Architecture & the Built Environment next session is on Friday 20 March, 7.30pm at Mrs Howard Memorial Hall on Social Housing: A Facilities Management Perspective. Cory Francis, a professional Chartered Engineer for a social housing provider, will give an illustrated talk about issues he has encountered and how he thinks the social housing and the rented sector will need to evolve to address stewardship, life safety, carbon emissions, and financial pressures. £5 for LALG members; £7 non-members. Booking fast: our Ukulele group, LaLuke, is performing at Letchworth Settlement on Friday 20 February. The concert, Hope I Get Old Before I Die will include music from Chuck Berry to Coldplay and anything in between. A licensed bar is available; doors open 7pm for a 7.30 start. "Whose Wine is it Anyway?" Saturday 7 March, 7pm for 7.30. Letchworth Settlement is holding a wine tasting with a difference: Would I Lie to You? meets Call My Bluff!  You will be given wines to taste and our 3 panellists (members of LALG wine groups) will each try to persuade you that theirs is the correct description. You and your team have to decide which is correct. Tickets £15pp from the Settlement's website.
