Jordans Mill

Thursday 16th May

As both Stuart and Geoff were heading for warmer (but not necessarily sunnier) climes, unusually I Adrian led the ride. In spite of initial thoughts of no-one turning up for the ride, five of us left The Magnets at about 10:35; Jackie, Anne, Mick from Baldock, Paul Harcourt and myself, leaving Stuart and Angie enjoying the sunshine.
We took the Stotfold Road as far as Fairfield, where we cut through to Arlesey and then over the bridge to Henlow, and thence to Clifton, Stanford and Southill, marvelling at the huge amount of hemlock along he verges.. well, at least I was. On through Broom and so to Jordan's, where we met John, and Mick from Harpenden, who had taken the train to Bedford and ridden in from the opposite direction.
A pleasant hour was spent on the terrace before setting off once more, returning by the direct route through Langford, and on to Henlow, where Jackie left us, then Arlesey, where Baldock Mick headed home, the remaining group splitting at the start of the path to Fairfield, John, Harpenden Mick and I headed off to Hitchin, leaving Anne and Paul to retrace the final stretch to LGC. A mostly sunny and warm day, with an increasing easterly, the 'official' part of the ride was about 20 miles, with an average of about 10.5 - 11 mph.
