Great Offley - Hertfordshire

Thursday 18th April

Our ride yesterday morning was  to Great Offley with lunch in The Red Lion.  Eight of us met in Wetherspoons for coffee/tea beforehand.  The riders were Colin, a potential new member, David R, Sandra, Geoff H, Peter, myself and Geoff P who took the lead.  Angie joined us for tea but was unable to join us for the ride due to her broken shoulder.  We took our usual route both there and back via Preston.  We arrived in Great Offley ten minutes or so early, so Geoff took us on a short loop around the village, David decided to leave us at this point to get in some extra miles.  On arrival at The Red Lion, the weather had brightened and warmed up so we decided to have lunch outside.  We were met for lunch by John and Bedford Paul also little later by Adrian and Mick too.  A very pleasant social lunch was had as usual.  Afterwards, Colin decided to take the bridleway towards Hitchin,  Paul did his own thing, as usual.  Adrian and Mick headed off together and the rest of us headed back to Letchworth with John heading towards Hitchin when we arrived at Preston.  The weather was a bit overcast to start with brightening up at about Midday.  It was warm for our return journey with hazy sunshine.  There was a little stiff breeze on our return in places but nothing too serious.  A short slow ride of 25 miles at an average of 10.5 a very pleasant ride none the less.
