A warm and humid start to the day, with just a hint of drizzle once or twice on my way to LGC for this month's Garden City Wheelers ride, but none thereafter, thankfully. There were already a good number of folk at the fountain as I arrived, and eventually there were (I think!) fourteen. Alan led a group on a longer route via Ashwell and Edworth, while I took the remainder on a partly off-road ride via Champneys and Southill. Alan's group comprised Chris, Jane, Steve, Andy E, Gareth , Geoff H and Derek, his first ride with us after a lengthy lay-off; welcome back! With me were Rob, Geoff P, Stuart and two new riders, Jo and Peter. Both groups arrived more or less together, despite approaching from different directions, and though Jordan's was, as usual, pretty busy, we were able to commandeer enough seating on the terrace for everyone, including Paul, who arrived just shortly after us, and Peter S, who had driven out to meet up. Good to see you, Peter. As the non-riding member of the group, he kindly took the obligatory pic... both Rob and Chris are on there, if a bit hidden!
After a most sociable interlude, preparations were begun for the return, and the group splintered somewhat, with some taking the direct route back to LGC via Langford, some via Southill and Clifton, and yet others making their own ways, including me. I rode with Andy as far as Old Warden, before taking a loop out to Clophill and then homeward, while Andy made for home via Sandy.
A successful GCW outing I think, with our new riders finding it most agreeable too. Adrian.
