It was a super day for a ride, I left the house in shorts! Today's ride was our monthly Garden City Wheelers ride in conjunction with Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group, and though there were no new riders, we did have an enquiry as we gathered at the fountain. We ended up being delayed by about 10 minutes, but as it was a short ride it didn't matter much! Stuart set off on the direct route on his own, picking up Jack (welcome back!) at Ickleford, while the rest of us (myself, John D, Mia, Kris, Andy S and Geoff H) took the longer route via Wymondley, Preston and Lilley. With the warmth and practically no wind, we made decent progress, and would've arrived bang on midday, except for some joker of a road mender giving us a 'lecture' on passing a 'Road Closed' sign, even though there was not much occuring! Turns out it was just his idea of fun... On arrival at the pub, we were only a few minutes behind Stuart and Jack, and mick, Pets and Paul, who had ridden independently, and then Geoff P arrived, by car, having been diverted by the aforementioned road closure!
We of course sat out in the garden, and the service here was excellent, all meals were delivered and consumed in possibly record time!
For me, it is but a short ride home from The Raven, but I accompanied the bulk of the group as far as Shillington before turning off for a spot of shopping at Discolicious, then home, with the rest of the group making their way back to the Letchworth area. Adrian.
