Hexton and The Raven for lunch - 15th August

On a warm and breezy morning, six of us set off for Hexton, with John D, Geoff H, Stuart, Chris(tine) and Andy E (welcome back!) joining me. We picked up John H in Ickleford, and on we went, via Holwell and Pirton to Shillington, where Stuart and John H took the direct route while the rest of us added a loop around Shillington. We were still plenty early enough, arriving at the pub at 11:50. Paul W soon joined us, followed a little later by Mick and Pete, and later still Geoff P, who had ridden out on his motor scooter.

So eleven for lunch, which is a good turn-out for us. We did well to arrive early, as the pub was initially quiet and we were served quickly, but by the time we left, it was very busy. Having said that, the staff are very efficient, and the food is good and reasonably priced too. After lunch, it had become very windy indeed, though fortunately, we had the wind behind us as most of us rode together as far as Shillington, before separating for our final legs.
