First Ride to Broom - Bedfordshire
17th February 2015
We had the first Garden City Wheelers ride today. Ten of us left the Three Magnets in Leys Avenue and headed for Broom via Norton, Stotfold, Henlow and Stanford. It was a beautiful winters morning, bright sunshine, crisp with a light southwesterly wind.  We were the usual (40+) crew of Geoff, Anne, Sheila, Frank, Paul and I (Stuart) joined by four newcomers David, Lorayne, Phil and Carol. We all had an enjoyable lunch at the Cock in Broom. (The pub with no bar). We came back via Edworth and Hinxworth. Just over 25 miles for the round trip.

Great Offley - Hertfordshire
19th May 2015
Geoff, Norman, Louise, Loraine, Paul and I left Dimples Café in doubtful weather headed for Great Offley. (Paul and Louise had already cycled 13 miles, to get a few extra miles in, training for Louise's imminent challenge for breast cancer). We cycled the usual route arriving at the Red Lion for lunch just after midday. We only encountered a couple of showers so we were very lucky indeed. An enjoyable lunch was had, while there was a hail storm outside. We retraced the same route back to Letchworth and remained dry. Total of about 22 miles, a moderate south westerly wind and quite cold for the time of year.

We headed to Ickleford, Holwell, Pirton, Shillington, Lower Gravenhurst, Silsoe and finally arriving in Wardhedges at 12:00, where we had an enjoyable lunch at the Jolly Coopers. After lunch we came back via Clophill, Shefford, Clifton, Henlow, Arlesey across to fairfield and back to Letchworth, the ride being led by Geoff. The weather was hot, with a very light breeze and we clocked up just over 30 miles.

Abington Piggots - Cambridgeshire
21st July 2015
Wheelers ride to Abington Piggots today. Three of us left Wetherspoons this morning Geoff, George and I taking the route Norton, Baldock, Bygrave, Ashwell, Steeple Morden, Litlington to our destination for lunch, the Pig & Abbot. Lunch was very good, albeit a long time coming. On the way back the wind was moderate and against us most of the time, being south easterly. We cycled via Shingey, Guilden Morden, Wrestlingworth, Eyeworth, Ashwell, where George left us to cycle back the route we came on, Hinxworth, Stotfold and back home. The weather was sunny, with some cloud and quite humid also windy as I said earlier.

Arrived at the Crown at Northill at about midday and had a well presented tasty lunch. We came back by a similar route via Old Warden, Southill, Stanford, Henlow, Arlesey, and Fairfield. The weather was threatening to rain throughout, but we managed to escape getting wet. There was a light wind and the mileage covered was approximately 30.

Gustard Wood - Hertfordshire
8th September 2015
The ride today was to Gustard Wood. Eight of us left Wetherspoons (Geoff, Frank, Jacquie, Steve with guests Guy, Richard, Ian and I) We headed off the usual route Wymondley, Redcoats, Little Almshoe, Shilley Green, down to the Kimpton road, then up through Ayot St Lawrence before arriving at the Cross Keys, Gustard Wood for Lunch. After a pleasant lunch we headed back to Kimpton, where Jacquie and Steve left us. We then headed on through Claggy Bottom along to Whiteway bottom, Frogmore, Preston, Hitchin before coming back to Letchworth. The weather was overcast and chilly most of the time. No real wind to speak of. A return milage of approximately 30.

Bassingbourn - Cambridgeshire
20th October 2015
This months ride was to the Hoops pub in Bassingbourn. Twelve of us left Wetherspoons (Geoff, Frank T, Frank C, Steve, Jacquie, Louise, Lorayne, Peter, Sheila, Mia, Paul and I) heading off to Bassingbourn, lead by Frank T. We rode via Baldock, Bygrave, Ashwell, Steeple Morden, Litlington and our destination Bassingbourn. An enjoyable lunch was had before a ride back. Paul and four others took a direct route back due to time constraints. The rest of us again lead again by Frank T headed back via Shingay, Guilden Morden, Wrestlingworth crossroads, Eyeworth, Dunton, Hinxworth and Stotfold. A good circuit of just over 33 miles. The weather was lovely bright sunshine almost all of the time. The photo, outside the Hoops Pub, shows us fed and watered, ready for the ride back.

Old Knebworth - Hertfordshire
17th November
Today our ride was to the Lytton Arms at Old Knebworth. Eight of us left Wetherspoons (Geoff, David, Frank T, Mia, Sheila, Loraine, Louise and I) lead by Geoff heading via Willian, Great Wymondley, St Pauls Walden, Whitwell, Codicote and Nup end. We didn't take our usual route through the back lanes via Shilley Green, due to the poor road surface which tends to be covered in mud at this time of year. A nice lunch was had, while the heavens chucked it down. As we departed for the return journey the rain miraculously stopped. On our return, because of the threatening weather we came back the shorter route via the Stevenage cycle paths, through Graveley, turning left to Wymondley before heading back to Letchworth. Loraine was unfortunate to get a puncture just after passing Sainsbury's. It had started to rain quite heavy at that point, but we were fortunate enough to have a cycle underpass for the A 602 which gave shelter while Loraine was able to fix her puncture, with a little help and guidance from Frank T. Well done Loraine and Thanks Frank. The weather was building up to the storm 'Barney' so not the most pleasant, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. A return milage of about 26 miles.

Circuit, South of Letchworth - Hertfordshire
Tuesday 15th December 2015
Six of us left Wetherspoons (Geoff, David R, David W, Frank C, Louise and I) lead by Geoff, for the monthly ride. Due to the time of year we did a 19 mile circuit, south of Letchworth. The circuit was via Willian, Great Wymondley, Redcoats, Little Almshoe then via Chapelfoot to Hitchwood up towards Preston, but going straight on at the top of the hill and over to Gosmore, Charlton, Hitchin, back up to Great Wymondley, Willian then home. The weather was not the best winters day, being overcast and dank, with some drizzle towards the end of the ride, but mild for the time of year.
