Meet Letchworth Station from 11am to catch the 11.20 (11.17 Baldock, 11.25 Hitchin, 11.31 Stevenage) Thameslink train direct to Farringdon.
You can buy an offpeak return at the ticket office where you can ask for a railcard discount. If you use contactless at the gate no railcard discounts apply but you avoid the queues. You will need to catch the 15.56 return from Farringdon to complete your journey off peak. Or wait in London until after 7pm. If you would like more felixibility you can buy an off peak travelcard which costs more but has no time limits on the return journey.
It is about half a mile, 10 minutes’ walk to the hospital.From West Smithfield, enter via the Henry VIII Gatehouse, then straight ahead through the archway under the North Wing and into The Square. The entrance to the North Wing is on your left facing The Square.

We should be at Barts around 12.30 which will give time for us to view (unescorted) the St Bartholomew’s Hospital Museum which tells the story of nine centuries of healthcare at the edge of the City of London. Originally opened in the 1990s, it showcases objects from the diverse collections held by Barts Health NHS Trust Archives.
After spending time in the museum there will be an opportunity for a refreshment break before we gather for our 50-minute tour which starts at 2.30pm.
There are toilets in Barts North Wing.
There is no picnic area or café and food can’t be consumed in the building. There is a small café in the hospital’s King George V building and cafés nearby, including 21 West, Beppe’s and Half Cup.
After the tour we will retrace our steps, or you can stay in London and travel home independently.
