LEIGHTON HOUSE VISIT CANCELLED

Leighton House: 12 Holland Park Road, London W14 8LZ

30 July 2025 (tour starts 2pm).

Cost £25 including tour fee and organisers costs.

There are 25 places available and booking opens by email to the Group contact at 9am on Monday 16 June.  Places allocated on a first come first served basis from 9am.

The former home and studio of the leading Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830-1896), from its first construction in the 1860s up until shortly before Leighton’s death, his studio-house on the edge of Holland Park was a constant preoccupation. Absorbing large amounts of his time, money and effort, the house combined spaces for living, working and entertaining and the display of Leighton’s collections.  Regularly featured in the press, his home came to embody the idea of how a great artist should live.  Find out more at rbkc.gov.uk/museums/

We will have a guided tour of the house which takes 60 – 90 minutes and starts at 2pm. 

We will meet at Letchworth station from 10.30am to take the 10.50 (Baldock 10.47, Hitchin 10.55, Stevenage 11.01) Thameslink train to Blackfriars.  Travel at the rear of the train.  Change to London Underground Circle/District Line to High Street Kensington. It is a short walk to the Museum. 

Transport permitting there will be time for refreshments before the visit.   There is a café at Leighton House.  Otherwise make use of the shops and restaurants around High Street Kensington.

After the visit we will retrace our steps or you can make your way home independently.

Close by is Sambourne House, also managed by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Sambourne House is the family home of legendary illustrator Linley Sambourne (1844 - 1910), situated at 18 Stafford Terrace, London W8 7BH.  Booking in advance is recommended, cost £12.50 for a self-guided tour.  This is not covered by the LALG visit.
