Guildhall 

  Off peak travel applies to these trains.  If you intend to travel just to and from City Thameslink you can buy an off-peak return to London Thameslink stations (which gives access to stations on that line from St Pancras to London Bridge).  If you have other plans, then please go online to select the most appropriate ticket.

We will be at Letchworth station, in the booking hall, from 9.00 to catch the 9.28 train (9.25 Baldock) destination Kings Cross.    Leave the train at Hitchin.  Catch the 9.41 (9.47 Stevenage) direct Thameslink service from Hitchin to City Thameslink.  Please travel in the rear carriage. This train arrives at 10.21 giving us  time to walk to the Guildhall.

Leaving City Thameslink via Holborn viaduct exit it is then a ¾ mile walk, taking about 15 minutes, to the Guildhall.  Tony will lead the group, and I will be at the back.  But in case anyone gets lost or delayed here is the route. From the rear of the train exit the station, find Holborn Viaduct and turn right (the escalator was out of action so 13 steps up to street level).  This shortly becomes Newgate Street.   After about ¼ mile at St Paul’s underground station, turn left, crossing at the traffic lights onto St Martin’s Le Grand. After 50 yards turn right into Gresham Street.  The Guildhall is about ¼ mile ahead on the left. 

The guided visits always start at 10.45 so we will have to walk there briskly. There are toilets on the train and at the Guildhall but there will not be any time for stops along the way.  If you think you will need any refreshment before the tour, please carry it with you.

 There will be time during the tour, which lasts approx. one hour, to see the Guildhall, the Roman Amphitheatre and afterwards you can see pictures in the Art Gallery.  You can go along to the Court of Common Council and see the City’s democracy in action.

After the tour there will be time for refreshments.  There are several coffee shops, restaurants and a Pret in the vicinity.   We will agree a time and place to meet to retrace our steps.  However, if you wish you can stay in London and make your own arrangements to travel home.
