Following a recommendation from a member we will be visiting the London Canal Museum. The museum is on two floors and there is a wharf outside where you can view the attractive canal basin, after reading about its history. It is a building with a great deal of character and interest, the exhibitions tell two linked stories, the stories of London's canals, and of the ice trade for which the building was built. 

I will be at Letchworth station from 9.30am to get the 9.50am train to St Pancras (Baldock 9.47, Hitchin 9.55, Stevenage 10.01).  We will travel in the centre of the train.  At St Pancras we will walk to the museum which is about 5 minutes away just behind the station.

I have booked 11 places (maximum number) on the 11.15am Camden Explorer Cream Tea boat trip. There will be a guide on board, and everyone gets a window seat!   This is an extended trip through four locks to the west of Camden, and return. The famous Camden Locks seen from the water, with a guide on board and tea/coffee and cream tea served during the cruise, which lasts about three hours. There will be an opportunity to buy food from Camden markets.

How accessible is Long Tom

The boat is not wheelchair accessible. Access to the cabin involves climbing down narrow stairs that turn. Staff will do their best to help people with access needs if they can.

The boat trip is suitable for blind and visually-impaired people, deaf and hearing-impaired people, and those with moderate walking difficulties. 

What should I wear?

The boat is fully enclosed but many people like to open the windows so it is best to have outdoor clothing with you. Please wear sensible shoes that won't fall off your feet.  you can get further information at canalmuseum.org.uk/visit/boat-trips.htm

After the trip we will make our way back to the station to catch the train home.  Or you can spend time in London and return independently.

As the maximum number is small you may want to visit independently.  There are three different boat trips available.  You do not need to book in advance to visit just the museum, but boat trips should be pre-booked online: canalmuseum.org.uk/visit
