There is a walk to Bygrave with Baldock Walks on Saturday 24 October. Meet outside Baldock Community Centre, 9.20am for a 9.30am start. Circular walk of about 3 miles through Ivel Springs towards Bygrave Plantation and back via Bygrave Road; a little steep in parts, rewarded with lovely views. Coffee afterwards in Baldock. New Tuesday Painting Group - we are hoping to start a new painting group on Tuesdays, 9am to 12 noon at Jackmans Community Centre. New Idea: Dungeons and Dragons Online. We will start with a 'Session Zero' meeting to introduce the game and gaming etiquette, and help players to create their characters. The Fitness Together sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays are full and so we are thinking of starting a Friday session. This would be at 12.30pm in the Norton Parish Centre next to St George's Church on Common View; led by the same professional trainer, Mike Eve. All you need is loose clothing and a bottle of water. A yoga-type mat can be useful. First session free, then £7 per session, or £5 per session if paid monthly in advance. We hope to run the first session on Friday 6 November at 12.30pm. On Tuesday 27 October at 7.30pm the Transport and Industrial Heritage group will welcome Alistair Hodgson, ex-curator of the de Havilland Aircraft Museum, to talk about the de Havilland Aircraft Company and Hertfordshire, from Sir Geoffrey de Havilland’s earliest flights to the global business he established in Hatfield. New Idea: Living with Climate and Extreme Weather. This would not be a campaigning group, but a place to discuss, share ideas and learn what climate change means and how we will have to adapt in everyday life at home and at work. Booking now: Hitchin Thespians will perform Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein at Woodside Hall in Hitchin from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October, with two performances on the Saturday. A ridiculous comedy, a gothic and old-school horror atmosphere and big theatrical numbers. Tickets £19 (£13 for Under 18s). Not recommended for under 13s due to adult humour and language.
On Thursday 5 November, 11am at the Broadway Cinema, The Arts Society North Hertfordshire presents: “A History of the City of London as told through Stained Glass ”. Anna Warrillow will take us on a journey of almost 2000 years, illustrated through the stained glass windows of the city churches and livery halls. £7 from the cinema’s box office or their website.
