We had a very successful first meeting on the 13th June 2024 with 14 people in attendance. We learnt and sang 5 songs together: South Australia, Roll the Old Chariot Along, Bulley in the Alley, Marching Inland and Wellerman. We will expand our repertoire in coming meetings and gradually work on the songs to enhance and add our own nuances based on singing abilities within the group.
On our second meeting we had 29 people. Singing was great and we learnt four new songs; John Kanaka, A Sailor ain’t a Sailor, Leave Her, Johnny Leave Her and Pay me my Money Down.
Singing Sea Shanties
We meet 7pm to 8.30pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the Small Hall (sometimes known as the upper hall) at St Pauls Church, 179 Pixmore Way, Letchworth, SG6 1QT. We can park in the church car park.
We recommend The Book of Sea Shanties by Nathan Evans. But song sheets will be provided. A charge of £3 will be made to cover venue hire. New members welcome.
