30 members enjoyed a very entertaining talk given by George Howe on the history of the Great Northern Railway, from its inception to the 2000s. His gentle and detailed delivery had those attending captivated. The talk was accompanied by slides showing many unique photographs of the early line from Kings Cross to Hitchin, Dunstable, Cambridge, Hertford and Letchworth. George’s knowledge of the intricacies of the engines, rolling stock and track layout, gained whilst working on the route, was impressive. Some interesting questions followed the talk and those attending showed their pleasure and appreciation with several rounds of applause.
