Myddelton House is the headquarters of the Lee Valley Regional Park. It was built between 1812 and 1818, and we were able to admire it from the gardens. The gardens were cultivated by a descendant of the original owners, Edward Augustus Bowles (who was an ancestor of Andrew Parker Bowles, the Queen’s first husband). We had refreshments on arrival followed by a private tour of the gardens, led by one of the gardeners. After lunch, we travelled on to Forty Hall, which is very close by. It is a Grade 1 listed Jacobean manor house, built for a former Lord Mayor of London. The last family to live in it were the Parker Bowles.
