Gardening at the Weekend

Gardening at the weekend

Apart from visiting each other's gardens to admire the efforts we make and to swap tips and take advice, we will also visit public gardens. Through the winter months, we arrange visits to interesting places, as our gardens bed down for the winter!  It isn't necessary to have a garden to belong to this group, an interest in gardens is all you need!

There is no visit planned for April.

See Group Events for details of our future meetings.

We have a couple of new members - Jenny Wilsher and Victoria Welch - hopefully they will be with us for our trip to Thornes.

Victoria has sent me the most amazing pictures of her Venus Fly Trap in flower!!!!  I didn't even know that they flowered.  Here is the evidence - isn't it beautiful?!

Last year I dug up all of my bulbs, as I was fed up with the leaves left behind once the daffodils etc have finished.  So this year I have decided to replant them all in pots, although I'm not sure whether I have managed to group the tulips, daffodils, fritillaria etc together!  It should mean I can just remove the pots from view while the leaves dry off at the end of Spring.  I bought plant theatres (shelves!) from Sarah Raven to display the pots.

In February 2023, we visited Benington Lordship, near Stevenage, for their snowdrop display.  They boast over 300 varieties of snowdrops, and in addition there were crocuses, cyclamens and hellebores in abundance.  Our visit ended at the church hall for tea and homemade cake!

In November 2022, a few of us visited Waddesdon Manor for their Winter Light Show in the grounds.  There was also a Christmas Fair to enjoy.
