Renowned 20th century novelist and author D H Lawrence wrote a number of essays on the novel, which he considered 'the highest form of human expression'. We will be discussing these essays, among them 'The Novel', 'Why the Novel Matters' and 'Morality and the Novel'.
 
All these essays can be found in section 3 (The Novel and Novelists) of A Selection from Phoenix, Penguin 1971. They are also included in 'Life with a Capital L: Essays chosen and Introduced by Geoff Dyer' published by Penguin Books in 2019.  Another volume, Selected Literary Criticism, contains several and can be found on the web.

The essay ‘Why the Novel Matters’ can also be seen in full on the University of Toronto website.  Just type the essay title followed by D. H. Lawrence  into your search engine and it should appear on the first page.
