Long Walk

A 10.8 mile, leisurely 5 hour walk through Cambridgeshire starting from Meldreth Station, return from Shepreth.

Take some interesting paths through the backways of Meldreth, past the Mill & Church, on to Whaddon. Turn North to pass over wide fields to cross the Rhee at Kingsbridge, then on to Orwell and climbing to the ridge where we take the ancient Mare Way. Fine views over surrounding countryside for lunch. Descend via Wilsmere Down, past the decaying Cement Works and into the charming village of Barrington. Cross the Rhee at Bulbeck Mill and continue to the Roman village of Shepreth and, ignoring the Zoo & Docwra's Manor, board the return train for Letchworth. please bring food and drink for the day.

Travel:
Leave Letchworth Station on 09:20am for Cambridge with a return-ticket to Shepreth (currently £4 with senior railcard) but alight at Meldreth at 09:35am where we will start the walk. For those who wish to drive, there is a modest station carpark at Meldreth** ( SG8 6JP; W3W ///outdoor.relocated.suppers ),  but on return, you will then need to walk the additional 1.5 miles back to Meldreth, take the very short train ride, or arrange a car shuttle with other drivers from/to Shepreth.
