Richmond upon Thames

Richmond is one of the most attractive parts of London and was ‘put on the map’ by royalty in the 16^th century. In Victorian times taking the waters became fashionable, and Dickens and Thackeray were frequent visitors to the village. The borough borders the River Thames, and Richmond Bridge is a particular landmark. We will see some of the oldest parts of the village and climb up Richmond Hill to see the iconic view from the top, protected by an Act of Parliament in 1902. Other places of interest are a well regarded theatre, some almshouses (Richmond has 11 sets), the former Royal Star & Garter Home for disabled First World War veterans and the poppy factory. People may wish to visit Ham House (National Trust), which is very close by. 

We offer three dates, but reserve the right to reduce this to two, depending on numbers. We will travel to Richmond by train. Cost £5 per person to cover the walk leader’s costs.
