*** Please note that this meeting is on the second Monday of the month as the first is a bank holiday. ***
Henry Edmundson will give his talk Walking Across Nepal: a Personal Journey through its Culture and History.
During the last ten years, Henry and his wife Connie have traversed the entire Himalayan chain on foot from Pakistan through Kashmir, India, Nepal, Sikkim, to Bhutan and beyond. He will describe the Nepal section of this odyssey, weaving in the complex story of the region’s geography, history, religions, and culture. You will be transported to areas which even today are seldom visited and introduced to the harsh realities of life among the world’s highest mountains and the challenges the Himalayan peoples face.
Henry has climbed and trekked in the wider Himalaya and Afghanistan since 1965. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a member of the Alpine Club and of the Himalayan Club. He is the author of the award-winning Tales from the Himalaya, which he will sell at the end of his talk for £15 per copy.
LALG's Writers Group will read some of their work rather than have a single first speaker as we normally do.
We meet in the Kincaid Hall, Letchworth Settlement, Nevells Road SG6 4UB. Doors open 10am for 10.30am. Limited parking is available on site; free parking is available by the outdoor swimming pool and the Bowls Club, both a few minutes’ walk away in Icknield Way.
£4 members, £6 non-members (membership available on the door). There is no need to buy a ticket in advance, just come along! Tea/coffee is available before the talk, £1 per mug.
