Cambridge Museum Visit

Details of this Event

-

Visit to Cambridge Zoology Museum where we will have a talk by the Collections Manager (a geologist) about evolution and the Museum's fossil collection. We will then wander round the Museum at our leisure. Photography (without tripods, selfie sticks etc) and drawing is permitted.

Meet in the Museum shop at 11.50am ready for our tour at noon.  Alternatively meet beforehand in the cafe upstairs.

(The newly refurbished Cambridge Arts Theatre, a few minutes' walk away, has a matinee performance of Noel Coward's The Marquise at 2.30pm - please book your own tickets if you'd like to go.)

Getting there

The Museum address is Downing Street but it is accessed from Pembroke Street (a continuation of Downing Street). From John Lewis, walk along Downing Street then, just past Tennis Court Road (on your left), turn right under the Pembroke Arch.

This link shows the entrance to the Pembroke Arch - it looks like a service road but there should be a sign on the wall pointing to the Museum. Walk to the right as you enter the courtyard Pembroke St - Google Maps. You should see a map in the bottom half of the screen - zoom this up and the route to the museum should show as blue dots.

Either make your own way there or meet on the 10.10am train from Letchworth to Cambridge (10.04 Hitchin, 10.13 Baldock, 10.18 Ashwell & Morden) arriving 10.39; meet outside the station, next to M&S. (Check these times before travelling as the timetable is due to change.) We will walk/bus to the Museum (about 1 mile) and optionally go for a coffee in the Museum cafe.

Tickets

We are limited to 12 places.  If the trip is full when you try to book, email Ann at geology@lalg.org.uk to go on the reserves list (include your phone number as places tend to come up at the last minute). If there are sufficient numbers another visit will be organised.

Book Tickets Cost £5, LALG members only. (To buy one, click on the link at the beginning of this paragraph.  Make sure you click through the pre-authorisation screen and then the registration (payment) screen - you will get a reference number when your payment has gone through. Don't worry if your card company asks for £0 authorisation - the correct amount will show on the next LALG screen and will be the amount deducted.)  All money will go to the Museum.

Please remember that a refund will not be given if you drop out for any reason unless someone from the waiting list (if we have one) takes your place.
