Membership of Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group (LALG) is open to all adults. We recognise the importance and benefit of an environment in which equality, diversity and inclusion are promoted. We aim to support and celebrate differences and to foster an inclusive organisation.

Group Contacts (GC) are the lifeblood of LALG; they keep groups going and make LALG what it is.

We have produced a guide to help GCs find the right person to help them.

This is available to download below.

Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group is a unique not-for-profit organisation founded in 1987.

William Armitage and staff at David’s Bookshop had seen that the Ideas Fair and Autumn Book Fair generated so much interest that there might be sufficient enthusiasm for a local arts and leisure group offering year round activities. When they advertised a meeting to discuss their ideas, so many people turned up that it was standing room only.

Members’ obligations:

There are many teams of volunteers that help to keep LALG running.  They all report back to the LALG Committee and usually have a Committee member as part of each team.

Some useful forms are available for download below.

If you would like to suggest any other forms to include here, please contact secretary@lalg.org.uk or webeds@lalg.org.uk

A guidance note on LALG's insurance arrangements is available for download below.  Group Contacts/event organisers should remind participants that they are responsible for their own personal insurance.

A letter from LALG's insurers confirming its insurance cover is also available for download below. This letter will suffice to show proof of LALG's insurance.  It can be given to a third party to confirm, for example, LALG's Public Liability cover when hiring a venue.

The Committee has approved a number of policies and other documents to help it manage LALG’s affairs.

SAFEGUARDING

We are committed to safeguarding the well-being of all children, young people and adults at risk we come into contact with and to protecting them from harm. Our Safeguarding policy, statement and procedures and guidelines are available for download below.

LALG’s accounting year end is 31 July.  The year end was changed from 31 August to 31 July at the 2017 Annual General Meeting.

LALG's accounts are independently examined each year and approved at the Annual General Meeting.

The latest annual accounts are available for download below.  Information about past AGMS, and AGMs in general, and the 2022 AGM is also available.

LALG is a voluntary organisation governed by a Constitution which:

Introduction of General Data Protection Regulations – some key principles

Since May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) have been in place.  The definition of what is personal data has been expanded and now includes almost anything that can be used to identify an individual, so this could be personal contact details, a membership number or a photo.  The key thing with all data is that there is a good reason to have it and consent to use it.

This page collects several items which are intended to help new Group Leaders get a group up and running, or as reference for established groups where necessary.  Download from the links below.

LALG’s affairs are managed by a Committee.  The Committee's composition and how it should be run are set out in LALG's Constitution.

The Committee must comprise a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 members.  Committee members are elected by LALG Members at Annual General Meetings.  They serve for a term of three years, but they can stand for re-election.  There is no maximum period of service.
