Water Music by Rachel Thomas and Derek Blyth - CANCELLED

Friday, 29 October 2021 - 7:30pm

We are sorry to announce that the concert has been cancelled. Ticket holders are being contacted.

Back due to popular demand, our next performers are Rachel Thomas and Derek Blyth. Both are professional musicians with excellent reputations. They will perform a selection of songs themed loosely around “Water”. This should be another memorable evening and will allow the Settlement to make use of its piano, as Derek accompanies Rachel singing an eclectic mix of songs, from classical pieces to Flanders and Swan.

The concert will take place at 7.30pm on Friday 29th October with the doors of the Settlement's Kincaid Hall opening at 7pm to allow the audience to be seated in good time.

You may attend the concert in person or via Zoom; booking for both opens on Tuesday 5 October. Details are given below.

Rachel is a product of Hertfordshire Music Service, gaining her degree in music and a PGCE at Leeds University, enjoying a varied career in Music education, teaching class music to all ages. She is a vocal and choral specialist but also plays viola and piano. She has taken many lead roles in Drama and Theatre productions including Maria in the Sound of Music and Florence Foster Jenkins in Glorious.

Our own Derek was born in Edinburgh and studied music there, and at the Universities of Aberdeen and Durham. He is a very experienced conductor and recitalist and is a member of the London Accordion Orchestra. He regularly lectures for the Manchester Wagner Society, of which he is president, and for many other organisations around the country. He has helped us create and run the Concert Series, being responsible for booking all the artists who have entertained here; it didn’t take much for us to yet again persuade him to book himself!

Booking details - in person attendance

Tickets are priced at £15 (£18 to non-members) and will include a cup of coffee/tea (made with any spare water unused by Rachel and Derek!) and a slice of cake. For those wanting something less aquatic, there will also be a licenced bar selling wine, beer and soft drinks.

The live audience tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis via telephone only at the Settlement on 01462 682828. The Settlement will be closed next week (half term) so anyone who wants to buy a ticket for the hall should do so by NOON Friday 22nd Oct.

A maximum of two tickets per person please, and you will need to provide your contact details including name, email address, telephone number and membership number of either LALG or the Settlement at the time of booking.   Zoom tickets can be booked through the LALG website using the links highlighted in Booking details below.

A copy of the Settlement’s Covid-19 Risk Assessment can be found here.

Anyone joining us live on the evening should be aware that:-

  • As required, the Hall will be ventilated by leaving doors/windows open so please wrap up in case the heating system does not fully compensate for any cold air.
  • Face coverings will need to be worn at all times you are moving around the hall, except when you are seated, although we would encourage you to wear them as much as you can to make everyone as comfortable as possible.
  • Please enter the Hall only as directed by the Team Members who will be there to seat you safely, and your patience would be appreciated as they do so. You may need to queue for a little while and we ask that you socially distance whilst doing so.
