Leon and Aliki first joined LALG around 15 years ago to go on a walking holiday. Now, many walks later, Aliki has joined the Daytime German group and the Easy Riders cycling group. She also volunteered Leon as an editor for this newsletter! He produced the May 2021 edition and plans to do more. Leon said: “Doing the newsletter, I was really impressed how many good people offer their time to LALG.“
Aliki and Leon both still love walking and Leon is also the webmaster for the North Herts Ramblers website. During lockdown they joined several of LALG’s online talks arranged through the COVE programme. Aliki said: “I think Zoom is here to stay and it would be great if we can join LALG activities even when we are able to visit our time-share in Spain again.
Asked to say a little about their own history, Aliki said: “We both grew up in Athens but Leon left as a teenager to study in London and we had our own lives. Then 25 years ago I came to England and made a new life with Leon. This is our home now.“
Their children are now grown up. Aliki’s son lives in New York and she is looking forward to him being able to visit before much longer. Leon’s two sons live more locally and each have two sons of their own.
