Editorial Guidance

The Group Page
  • Try and keep the Group Description to 3 or 4 paragraphs, describe the purpose of the group, not its recent activities.
  • Future activities show be included as events.
  • Additional information such as reports on group activities should be added as articles.
  • Add pictures to articles as appropriate, get permission from the people involved if identifiable.
  • Important articles can be made "sticky" i.e. they will always appear at the top of the article list.

General Guidelines

Editors are responsible for what they publish

Read the download 'All Editors - background information' (see below).

Links

Please use relative links when refering to links on this site, in the case of group pages the group page will have an alias so use that. For example the link to the new page should be /newgroups not https://www.lalg.org.uk/node/120

Cutting and pasting from MS Word and similar

Please remember to delete the formatting by selecting the whole area pasted and hitting the rubber in the tool bar (Remove Formatting). The site has cascading style sheets set up for consistency across the whole site, local styles will override that and spoil the overall look and feel.

Formatting

  • Don't try to fit the text to your particular device's screen width, users will use a variety of devices of differing widths.
  • Try to make the text flow as much as possible, use paragraphs sparingly.
  • Use non breaking spaces only when strictly necessary, for example to keep a phone number together.
  • Never use non-breaking spaces to keep text in columns, if the font changes your alignment will fail, use tables.
  • Most formatting is taken care of by cascading style sheets, and is consitent across the site.

Information management

Please don't duplicate information as this will cause mainenance issues.
