We hope you have recovered from yesterday evening’s quizzing exertions.
Here are some facts we thought you may enjoy:
- One post-quiz party (3 households via Skype) finished only when one of the participant’s Hive system turned the lights off.
- We were slightly late uploading the answers for Rounds 1 – 4. We tried to publish them bang on schedule but had trouble saving them due to the number of people hitting the refresh button at the same time.
- We didn’t find anyone further away than Aberdeen within the British Isles but the most remote participant overall was in Saudi Arabia.
- Answers to the amount of cream eaten by Wimbledon attendees last year varied wildly. Some were what we can only describe as being on the stingy side (2,000 litres across 191,930 portions) while others would have definitely contributed to the obesity crisis (750,000 litres). The actual amount used (7000 litres) is 2-3 tablespoons per portion.
Some notes about the answers:
- Traditionally, only specific breeds of horse can be described as white (eg adult Lipizzaners) others are described as grey. As we were aware of this we were very careful when confirming a strawberry roan horse’s coat colour. We found this white/grey distinction didn’t apply in any of the places we used in research: they all called it chestnut and white. We decided however to accept grey as an answer because so many people said horses cannot have white hair.
- Strawberry Fields was written entirely by John Lennon, not jointly with Paul.
- There was quite a lot of comment (all polite we would like to point out) about the king’s moves in chess. We have double-checked using different reputable sources and still believe the maximum move is 2 squares for both king- and queen-side castling.
- How many of you wearing Levis didn’t realise you were sitting on the answer to the question about the granting of Levi Strauss’ patent? It is printed on the label...
- And for those of you not familiar with Sousa’s The Liberty Bell: it’s the Monty Python TV theme tune.
So here it is – the results table. Our panel of highly qualified adjudicators have verified the scores and declare the winners to be Bardale Harriers. Well done to them!
