Message from the Chair of LALG

Message updated: Wednesday 22 April 2020

As the lockdown continues I think we are all adapting to a different pace of life and finding innovative ways to keep in touch with friends and family. To relieve the boredom of another night in, nearly 200 people took part in the LALG quiz last Saturday. Hosted online by Ann and Andrew, participants answered questions on a raft of topics inspired by 18 April which included:

  • The anniversary of the formation of International Amateur Radio Union
  • National Lineman Appreciation Day
  • The 64th anniversary of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan announcing the creation of Premium Bonds
  • World Heritage Day
  • International Raw Milk Cheese Appreciation Day

Thankfully the questions were less obscure than some of these anniversaries! I know people really enjoyed themselves and we are hoping to have another one soon. So a big thank you to the organisers.

Spring is unfurling all around us and some will have the pleasure of watching it happen during our daily exercise. But for those who can’t get out I’d encourage people to post their photos on the ‘Spring is Sprung’ forum so that others can share in nature’s bounty.

Our Online Temporary Membership is now up and running so friends and family can get a taste of what LALG has to offer - for free! And you can see at a glance what groups are doing by viewing the online calendar or individual web pages. My thanks to the website editors for working behind the scenes to keep these updated.

And we will be delivering another online newsletter soon so if you have articles of interest, quizzes or puzzles that we can include please send them to the newsletter editor.

Keep safe and well, my best wishes
