Virus Emergency

Important message from the Chair of LALG about the current virus emergency

As you know the situation regarding coronavirus is continually changing as the epidemic reaches into

the United Kingdom.

LALG is following the advice provided by Government and we will keep the website updated with any relevant news. You can find the government’s advice at www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

In view of the most recent advice we strongly recommend that all LALG events and groups that take place indoors or involve travel on public transport should be cancelled for the foreseeable future. The April Members’ meeting and Annual Quiz have been cancelled. LALG insurance does NOT cover cancellation costs for the virus.

It may be that some outdoor activities can continue if it is possible to follow the social distancing guidance. A walk or cycle ride in the fresh air might be beneficial. But remember to take your own provisions as pubs and cafes may be closed. It will be up to group members to decide if they wish to participate given the current situation.

But all LALG activity does not have to cease. Many group contacts have lists of email contacts for their members and, with permission from them under the data protection guidance, could set up open groups to keep in touch. We know social isolation might be a problem and planning next year’s activities or reviewing a book or TV programme, might be a good way for people to keep occupied and in touch with each other even if we can’t get out. Think about it and be creative about how email might be used!

We are also keen to ensure that nobody in LALG should struggle if they can’t get out for provisions. If you contact me at chair@lalg.org.uk or 01462 735642 we will get some help to you. Otherwise there is a network of mutual aid groups being set up and you can find details here: https://covidmutualaid.org/

The April edition of the newsletter went to print before the latest governmental advice and is already out of date. Unless the situation changes radically there seems little point in issuing a May edition. Please could Group Contacts email website@lalg.org.uk with any updated information for the website.

We will keep you up to date via the website at lalg.org.uk and by occasional emails if the situation changes.

If you need further advice you can contact me at chair@lalg.org.uk or if there are financial matters you wish to discuss please contact Alan at treasurer@lalg.org.uk.

Keep safe and well.

Elaine
