The Strange Weather of 2018

We are all familiar with the headlines of heatwaves in our newspapers but what has the weather really been like this year in Letchworth?

In January to April 2018 we had the highest rainfall (219mm) in the last seven years apart from 2014 which was even wetter (279mm).

The rain in these months was fairly normally distributed. However May brought a change. Despite having quite a high rainfall and keeping the year a very wet one, the rain came heavily on few occasions. June and July stayed really dry with rain on 1st and 2nd of June and then none until 27th & 28th July together with high temperatures. So our average rainfall is now the lowest (except 2013) for the last seven years and our maximum temperature (in the shade) in July was 30.3 C, way above the norm of around 24 C. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!
