Please note: at the time of going to press the walks are full on all four dates. Anyone hoping for a place is welcome to contact Keith as there are often cancellations. If you have booked but are unable to go on the walk, please ensure you contact Keith as early as possible so that someone else can take your place.

Our walk will be about 4¼ miles in length from Tower Hill towards Canary Wharf along the north bank of the Thames exploring the riverside parts of the four former hamlets of Wapping, Shadwell, Ratcliffe and Limehouse. Following wartime devastation and the closure of the docks in the late 60s, much of this formerly industrial area has undergone gentrification and we will see the one remaining dock, fine examples of converted warehouses together with historic pubs, private houses and two fine churches.

Please note that lunch will be at the Prospect of Whitby PH and the pub has asked that we pre-order food. Please look at the menus at: and confirm food requirements when making the booking. Loo stops are, regrettably, limited to coffee and lunch.

Meet at Letchworth Station to catch the 9.56am train to Kings Cross (9.52am Baldock, 10.00am Hitchin). Gather beyond the barrier at Kings Cross to take the Circle Line to Tower Hill. Return on trains before 4.30pm.

To book: contact Keith Montague from 15 May, preferably by email: or 01462 450852, not Rosemary.

Our walks are open to all LALG members, and we ask for a £3 per head contribution towards the leader’s research expenses. When booking please confirm LALG membership, your email address and, ideally, a mobile contact number.
