Southwark Cathedral & St Magnus the Martyr

Wednesday, 21 June 2017

We will travel by train and tube to St Magnus the Martyr, which sits at the north end of the original London Bridge. The church has had a long and chequered history including housing soldiers during the Gordon Riots. We will probably look round on our own rather than have a guide.

After this short visit we will walk over the current London Bridge for a brief lunch in Southwark / Borough Market. Bring a picnic if you wish. We will then have a 90-minute private tour of Southwark Cathedral, led by one of the official guides. This covers areas of the building that the public tours do not.

We will catch the 9.45am fast train from Letchworth to Kings Cross.  Meet in the booking hall of Letchworth station at 9.15, or at the end of the arrival platform Kings Cross, next to the engine.

Return in time for the last cheap day return.

Book at Letchworth Tourist and Information Centre in Station Road. Cost: LALG members £9, non-members £11, plus travel and refreshments.

NB Tea/coffee and lunch stops will be included but brief, due to the constraint of getting back to Kings Cross for the last cheap-day return train. There will not be time for a full meal at lunch time.
