January 2012

Our January meeting featured a novel “Shoot-Out” between the wines of Chile and South Africa, with Gerry Williams offering a selection of wines from Chile, and Rob Hailstone a selection from South Africa. Members were able to vote on the best of the wines immediately after tasting each one. As the various wines were sampled the favourite swung from one country to the other.

An enjoyable slant on a tasting which was enhanced by fresh bread baked by Rob! The final outcome was declared an honourable draw, as individual tastes vary so much from person to person. This is a theme which no doubt will feature in future tastings as there are many more countries whose wines we would be only too happy to compare.
