The British Schools Museum
41-42 Queen Street, Hitchin SG4 9TS Meet in the courtyard at 9.45am and proceed to the school hall for refreshments at 10am. Please note that there is no parking at the museum, but St Mary’s pay and display car park is across the road, next to the market. You will need to allow for four hours of parking as the complete visit is three hours long, from 10am to 1pm.
Refreshments will be followed by a talk on the history of the school and some information on education, including the monitorial system used when the school opened. Then there will be a Victorian lesson in the galleried classroom and a guided tour of two more classrooms and the headmaster‘s house.
We will then travel by car to The Orange Tree pub (100 Stevenage Road, Hitchin SG4 9DR) for lunch. Lunch is optional.
The cost of the trip is £10 per person for the school visit – plus the cost of the optional lunch as selected from the menu, which will be available in advance for pre-orders.
