Thank you to Carol and Derek for an enjoyable quiz. Here's their post-match report:
Thanks everyone for participating in what turned out to be quite a tricky quiz. We hope you enjoyed taking part as much as we did putting it together.
Round 1 proved to be the lowest scoring - how quickly the big news stories of only a few months ago fade from the memory! Round 3 had the best scores - you know your trees.
We had a family bet on how many of the teams would recognise the Norwegian cheese Gjetost (well done Red Lichties) or the lovely Basque sheep milk cheese Ossau-Iraty (congratulations March Hares). We’d definitely recommend the latter (available at all good supermarkets) but not so much the former; definitely an acquired taste.
Apologies for our introduction of an extra T in Gewürztraminer - though thankfully it didn’t put you off. Given our mistake we have allowed some small variations in the spelling of that answer and, because several teams thought Riesling was spelled with “ei” rather than “ie” we have also allowed that spelling. So some of you will have seen your claimed scores changed slightly.
Prize for best typo goes to the Owl and the Pussycat food - “mice” and quince. Much more suitable for both of them.
Prize for best anagram shared between Oy!Austria and Baronial (for Albariño)
The results table is below. Congratulations to The Stots, who just pipped All the Ws by a single point.
