Thank you to The Stots team for an excellent quiz. Here is their post-match report and the results table.

Twenty teams competed and nineteen submitted final scores, as listed below.

Congratulations to the Dahlias who came first with an excellent score of 90, closely followed by the March Hares and All the Ws.

Rounds 3 (In December) and 4 (Ring Out the Old) produced the highest scores with several teams getting full marks in both. Round 8 (Cheers) proved more challenging!

Thanks to the team who pointed out that Cicely is also both a herb and a girls’ name. We looked through the answers and realised we should also accept Angelica. Everyone else opted for Rosemary.

Definitions can be tricky, we settled on viticulture – growing vines; viniculture – growing vines for wine making; and oenology the science and study of wine making. A number of teams remarked that they had enjoyed another aspect during the quiz – wine drinking!

Estimates of the number of books in the New Testament varied from 6 to 88, but quite a few teams got it right. We were surprised how many people remembered Mary Decker; and less surprised at how many recalled bell bottoms!

Having looked over the answers we felt some teams had been rather hard on themselves, so you may find your score has gone up by one or two. As always, it’s also worth remembering that team sizes ranged from one to six, so not quite a level playing field. 

The next quiz is on 29 January 2022 at 6.45 for 7pm, when our hosts will be Carol and Derek.
