This event is an opportunity to walk in the Woodland Trust's Heartwood Forest and explore the bluebell woods; it follows a talk about Heartwood Forest by Tim Wright on 26 April.
We will meet in the car park at 10.45am for a guided walk starting at 11am. The main entrance is on the A651, 300 yards north of the last roundabout in Sandridge; there is a ½-mile single track road to the carpark. Heartwood Forest provides information about the Forest and gives access to a good Google map. The nearest postcode (for north end of Sandridge) is AL4 9DQ.
- There are no public toilets on site. The nearest are beside the village hall in the centre of Sandridge about 8 mins walk from the carpark.
- By 4 May, the ground should have dried up considerably so walking boots or decent trainers would be fine.
- We will walk up to and around the nearest bluebell wood. That’s about 1.3 miles return and, with stops to chat, would take about 1 hour. Elaine will be on hand to take anyone who wants to go back to the car park.
- Visit two more ancient bluebell woods, see some of the recent coppicing work and other volunteer activities. This is about 2.8 miles and would take 2 hours. Christina Butterworth will stay with this group.
- Do the above but extend it to take in the native tree arboretum and the community orchard. This would make a combined walk of about 4.2 miles, taking about 3 hours and require a stop for a picnic lunch. William will be with you.
