Details of this Event
Venue: Fotheringhay Church, Fotheringhay Rd, Tansor, Fotheringhay, Peterborough PE8 5HZ
Fotheringhay, west of Peterborough, is where Mary Queen of Scots was last held prisoner, and was executed. The morning will feature a most interesting talk about Fotheringhay Church, which displays much information about Mary, by Colin Pendrill, former Head of History at Oundle School. There will then be free time to look around the Church (there is much of interest), and the Churchyard. After a lunch break (coffee/tea/cake provided by the Church, and we can bring a sandwich or whatever to eat in the Church) Colin will lead us to where Fotheringhay Castle stood, this being where Mary was tried and executed, telling us about the site and the events that took place, then take us around the site. The River Nene flows past the site, which is interesting to see.
Booking to join the visit is essential, preferably by email at visits@lalg.org.uk or phoning 01438 241043.
The cost £8 for LALG members and £10 non-members, collected on the day, covers the coffee and cake; in addition, Colin gives his time on the basis that there is a donation to the Church.
The visit is also open to non-LALG members.
