Old Warden

*** THIS TRIP IS FULL ***

Please email Ann to go on the waiting list.

This non-religious group visits places of worship to learn about their architecture, monuments and history, and about the people who have been associated with them over the years.

Today we are visiting St Leonard, Old Warden.

This small church is just west of Biggleswade (see directions below). There are some Norman remnants but the current building is mainly C13th with alterations in most of the following centuries.  Jenkins gives it 2 stars in England’s 1000 Best Churches due to the quality of its Flemish woodwork and the window from Woburn Abbey.
We will have a talk about, and a look around, the church. You may wish to bring a torch so you can see in the corners!

Please arrive promptly for our talk, which will start at 11am. There is plenty of free parking at the church but no toilet. This is a small building so please do not come along “on spec” without booking.
LALG members £4pp; non-members £6pp - £4 to be paid when booking below, and another £2 in cash on the day. Booking closes 23.59, 20 June. All money will be given to the church.
Directions: From the Biggleswade North Junction on the A1 (next to Sainsbury's) go West along Hill Lane (B658) and keep going until you reach Old Warden (pass G&M Growers on your right and Shuttleworth on your left). When you reach the village of Old Warden, Church Lane is on the right. At the time of writing (and on Google street scene) there is a brown road sign pointing to the the church. The church is at the far end. Google map NB the Church's postcode is not helpful.
