General Data Protection Regulations

GDPR Full Guidance

Introduction of General Data Protection Regulations – some key principles

Since May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) have been in place.  The definition of what is personal data has been expanded and now includes almost anything that can be used to identify an individual, so this could be personal contact details, a membership number or a photo.  The key thing with all data is that there is a good reason to have it and consent to use it.

Annual General Meetings

LALG holds an Annual General Meeting every year, usually in October or November.  Apart from it being a requirement in the Constitution, so that Members can receive the Committee’s annual report and LALG's annual accounts, and elect Committee members as required, it is also an opportunity for Members to meet Committee members and ask them questions.

The approved minutes of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Annual General Meetings are available for download below.

2018 Members' Survey - RESULTS

The survey for 2018 has now closed. A report on the survey went to the Committee on 24 September, click here for details.

Help - please

Like all other aspects of the running of LALG, the membership team depends on volunteers. We now urgently need to recruit at least two further members of the team.

IDEAS BRAINSTORM - Held on 20th MARCH 2010

Many thanks to 32 general and 11 committee members who made the morning such a success. The lively discussions, held in a friendly atmosphere, were aided by the excellent skills of Bruce Carr, who acted as facilitator and kept everyone focused during the debates. Many topics - under the general headings of strengths, weaknesses and future of the LALG were covered.

What is LALG?

What we are - What we do

LALG – Letchworth Arts & Leisure Group – an amazing organisation – started in Letchworth, envied and copied by other towns.  We are an umbrella organisation embracing around ninety groups of interests and activities, mainly in or around Letchworth, Hitchin, and Baldock, but extending to Stevenage and surrounding villages.

Introduction to LALG

Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group is a unique not-for-profit organisation founded in 1987.

William Armitage and staff at David’s Bookshop had seen that the Ideas Fair and Autumn Book Fair generated so much interest that there might be sufficient enthusiasm for a local arts and leisure group offering year round activities. When they advertised a meeting to discuss their ideas, so many people turned up that it was standing room only.

LALG’s affairs are managed by a Committee.  The Committee's composition and how it should be run are set out in LALG's Constitution.

The Committee must comprise a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 members.  Committee members are elected by LALG Members at Annual General Meetings.  They serve for a term of three years, but they can stand for re-election.  There is no maximum period of service.

If there is a vacancy on the Committee, the Committee can co-opt a Member to fill the vacancy, but the person appointed must stand for election as a Committee member at the next AGM.
