'Action for Happiness' is a movement for positive social change, bringing together people interested in trying out psychological techniques that improve our sense of well-being.
The group format involves discussion about research conducted within the field of 'positive psychology'. Members then try out activities evidenced to increase happiness such as mindfulness, identifying strengths, gratitude diaries, being near nature (as well as many others). The group can share their experiences and monitor feelings over time to observe any improvement.

We meet most months on either Thursday or Saturday mornings to visit – usually in shared cars – local nature reserves. All levels of knowledge and experience are represented and welcomed to join our friendly (and growing!) group of birders.

While we have growing numbers of members, this group can no longer continue without someone to plan and coordinate trips. Would anyone interested please contact Roberta.

Please contact Roberta (details to the right) for details of our next few events, or to find out more about us.

Catch Up Tuesdays have returned.

We are a social group who meet up for coffee before each film in David's Coffee Shop, Eastcheap, at 10.30am.

Please ring Dorothy for date and details of next  meeting.

We meet once a month to plan trips over a cuppa, and have one "group" outing a month.

Our members also contact one another for ad-hoc trips.

See Events panel on the right for future activities.

Tuesday 31 October; the subject of the talk will be 'A child's experience during the German occupation in Guernsey.'

Regular meetings are held on the last Tuesday of every month (except August and December) between 11.00 am and 12.30 pm, at the Central Methodist Church (junction of Pixmore Way and Norton Way South, SG6 2TR).  See the Events panel on the right.

Come along to our friendly group and enjoy a cuppa followed by an informal talk.

The title sums it up - a group to consider all and every matter relating to Europe.

Our Singles Drop-In for single men and women meets weekly on Fridays from 8.00pm at the Cultivo Lounge, Leys Avenue.

The relaxing evening is an informal way to make new friends and maybe to suggest an event that you have wanted to attend, so it can be added to our calendar of varied social events and other members can attend too. 2016 was such a busy year with visits to the theatre, cinema, concerts, walks, dancing, bowling, meals out, etc.

We have an eclectic programme of visits but do not meet on a regular basis. Instead, Steve (the group coordinator) researches a local-ish sports fixture / event then offers it to all members of the LALG. See the panel on the right for information about our current plans.

Please forward any any requests/ ideas to Steve - again, see the panel on the right for details.

We meet fortnightly.

Sorry, no new members can be accepted at present, but there is now a second group running - look for Meet for Coffee 2 in Social Groups.

We meet regularly for tea/coffee and a chat at the Wyevale Garden Centre, Hitchin.

See the Group events box on the right for dates.

New members are welcome - just turn up or contact Maureen.

Visits to museums and places of interest and occasional pub lunches

This group enters a team (or teams) in general knowledge quizzes held at various locations in Letchworth Garden City and other nearby towns and villages. We try to take part in a couple of quizzes a month - not on any specific evening - so if you know of a quiz near you that you'd like to take part in, join us & we'll fit it in. Or perhaps you know about a one-off quiz at the weekend.

I am collecting email addresses from people who would be interested in activities on a Sunday.
Suggestions such as visiting an Open Garden or a picnic; playing board games or croquet and crazy golf; having a BBQ or going to the cinema – just to mention a few ideas.
If you are interested please contact:

We meet on the first Thursday of the month to book a trip on a Thursday at the end of the subsequent month making use of reduced rail fares for Advance tickets and/or a group/railcard reduction. The cost of the fare is usually around £20 but depends on how far we travel and we aim to spend around 5 hours at our destination

All are welcome but you will need to be at the meetings to book and pay for the ticket.

For Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

The weather in Letchworth in 2016 was, as usual, very varied and interesting. In comparing notes with others we find our figures vary slightly within different parts of the town so this piece is based on figures recorded in the northern part of our Garden City. Although there were one or two moments of sleet I did not record any days where snow lay on the ground. Over the whole year the rainfall was a little lower than normal but there were certainly some wetter than usual months.

We travel together to interesting places, festivals and events using our own or public transport. Everyone is welcome.
