LALG 2014 AUTUMN GOLF TOURNAMENT REPORT

~The LALG 2014 Autumn Golf Tournament took place at Wyboston Lakes Golf Course on Tuesday 7 October, with 30 participants. We managed to maintain the 15-year record of having fair weather and, as always, the staff there looked after us very well. The course, too, was in great condition.
The repeated Texas Scramble format made for a very relaxing social day. The winners from last year, Brian Burt, Gill Cheaney, Ray Black and Chris Thom-son, remained as a team, but as they had won then and 2 of them had achieved much lower handicaps since last year, found their team handicap drop from 9 to 6. All other teams were newly created, but evenly balanced on handicaps.
All of the teams ended with Stapleford scores, which were very close - only 6 points between 1st and last but the winners from last year managed to end up marginally ahead. So they retained the Challenge cup. Because they now have a gross handi-cap much lower than other teams, and this unbalances the field, they will be split up next year. Other winners this year were Alison Webber, ladies’ nearest the pin; Dorothy Browne, ladies’ longest drive; John McCormick, men’s nearest the pin; and Malcolm King, men’s longest drive.
